More About I-264 Web Design

Our Company

I-264 Web Design LLC has one goal-to make our clients happy with the service we provide them.

The Internet is still a new, developing industry. It is difficult enough to keep track of the latest electronics available for your home or the newest features of the latest smartphones, so trying to keep up with all the changes to website technology or social media is almost impossible if you're trying to run a business.

This is why we take the time to understand your business, learn what your needs are and develop a product or package that you can be proud to show your customers that actually works for you.

Where it Started

100_9909In 1991 I began my career as a long-haul trucker, first hauling household goods all over the eastern United States and after three years, made the move to hauling general freight cross-country. I never went to a truck driving school or "technical college." In 1999 I bought a laptop computer and after spending most of my downtime away from home engaging others in chat forums, I developed an interest in building and designing websites. There are many bad, unsafe or foolish things that you can get mixed up at truck stops, so sitting in the drivers seat, happily tapping away on a keyboard was the best way to do something creative and keeping out of trouble.   After getting out of long-haul trucking, I named this company I-264 Web Design because that Interstate was the first Interstate I took out of town when I started my trucking career and the last Interstate I traveled months later when quit trucking. Over the course of my life, I-264 has run right through it.

Starting a New Path

100_4934I ended up adopting first one, then a second cat from my friends at Cat Rescue, Inc. in Chesapeake and decided that with all the spare time I had waiting to load and unload or just to get a load assigned to me, I really began learning about HTML (Hypertext Markup Linking) which is the language used to create webpages. I purchased several books that gave you step-by-step instructions on how to write the code but as with most things computer-related, this lead to other "rabbit holes" such as Shockwave graphics, Search Engine Optimization, Graphics, Photography and Videography. It wasn't too long before people started offering me money and accusing me of knowing what I was doing. Today, some have said "If you're serious about running for office, I-264 is the way to go!" We try hard to take good care of our clients and treat their needs as our highest priority.
Where Do We Start

In the Beginning

Although there can be differences from project to project, developing a website usually has 6 different phases;
  1. Information Gathering
  2. Planning
  3. Design
  4. Development
  5. Testing and Delivery
  6. Maintenance
The most important thing to remember is, websites don't just appear. A professional web developer cannot create your website unless they are given the content the client wants presented.

Different Projects, Different Needs

There really is no "off the shelf" website that is suitable for every application. Some websites will need more attention than others and some clients may have different individual needs than others. One potential client had an online service they loaded their inventory to as it arrived. He was never aware that this service he subscribed to also provided them with a website and he only had to redirect his domain name to the site. This small oversight could have cost him hundreds of dollars spent on a product he did not need. Your project may need to be constructed from the ground up, just a few code-fixes or perhaps some new, updated photographs. Wherever your project is, please contact us and give us a chance to earn your business.

The Bird That Killed SEO

penguinSEO is web-jargon for "Search Engine Optimization." It means that your website is optimized with specific codes and tags that make your website rise above the competition. Many clients have paid thousands of dollars to have their websites "Optimized" for search engines such as Google, but on April 24th 2012 an algorithm called "Penguin" from Google sent that kind of SEO the way of the Do-Do Bird. These days, the best way to reach the top of a Google Search is to list your business with Google and invest your advertising dollars with them. Remember, Google isn't a search engine, they are an advertising company with the most popular search engine on the Internet today. Industry Article Brian Urani - Why SEO is a Scam

Promote Your Business

destephcarWe have all heard about being a "shameless, self-promoter" but the truth is, if you are running an honest business, providing goods or a service to others, working hard, paying your taxes and creating jobs in your community, you have nothing to be ashamed of at all. Unless you are an E-Commerce company, a website is not an advertising cure-all. Like your business, your website has to engage customers on different levels and convince them that you are the one they want to spend their dollars with. While it is important to promote your business, it is also important to promote your website and there are many easy, inexpensive ways to accomplish this goal.

Can't I Just Use a "Do-it-Yourself" Website?

Yes, you can use a "do-it-yourself" website service and there are many fine services that will allow you to build an attractive, professional looking website at a reasonable price. However, even if you have some computer, graphics or website experience, there will still be a learning curve that will take you time to master. HTML (Hyper-Text-Markup-Linking) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) are VERY complicated skills. Learning what you need to know isn't impossible, but there can be steep learning curves depending on what it is you would like to accomplish. Self-constructed websites are possible, but it can be time consuming and frustrating. Even if you are using a program like Wordpress, sometimes things just don't come out the way you'd like them to, and that's where I-264 Web Design LLC can help! I-264 Web Design LLC can also help you with professional photography for your business, candidate or organization and can integrate these photos into superior graphics for your website at a reasonable price.
